Most stones come in various shades of pink, but also up to dark red, depending on the amount of manganese; they may also be partially white, gray, and black. It is known as "rosaline" zoisite, i.e., the pink palette of zoisite and, depending on the manganese content, the color saturation can vary significantly.

SITE
- Norway, also found in Austrian Tyrol and in Mitchell County, North Carolina.A new, more recent occurrence of a small amount of thulite was discovered near Riverside in Okanogan County, Washington, USA, and in Snillfjord and Trøndelag, Norway during tunnel construction in December 2018.Thulite is also found in New Zealand in the Otago region on the South Island.
- Thulite is also found in Namibia.Its occurrence is widespread throughout the Namib Desert and it generally has ridges oriented NE to SW.The color can be highly variable, with most deposits having a greenish character, but the desirable pink color is occasionally found.
HISTORY AND TRADITION
Thulite (sometimes called rosaline) is a translucent, crystalline or massive pink manganese variety of the mineral zoisite.Thulite is often mottled with white calcite and occurs as veins and fracture fillings cutting through many types of rock.In mineralogical literature, thulite may sometimes refer to any pink zoisite.Clinothulite is a manganese-bearing variety of monoclinic clinozoisite.
Thulite was first discovered in a place called Sauland in Telemark, Norway, in 1820.It is named after the legendary island of Thule, under the assumption that it was Scandinavia.Thulite is used as a gemstone and carving material in the production of jewelry and decorative objects.
