Its healing abilities also include dumortierite's property of positively influencing the human nervous system. The gemstone increases resistance to stress, combats insomnia and irrational anxiety, phobias, depression, and other mental disorders.

JEWELRY
COLOR: Most dumortierite crystals are blue. Nature, however, has created additional shades of this extraordinary mineral:
The fibrous structure of the gemstone, with varying reflection intensity from each fiber, creates a pockmarked effect, making the mineral’s color appear heterogeneous. The cool blue shade is the most common color of dumortierite. Warm tones are rare and often look unattractive.
INTERESTING FACT: In 150 years of dumortierite mining, only one specimen of the blue-pink mineral has been found. This unique gem looks like a variety of sapphire - padparadscha. After the emerald was cut, the stone acquired collector value estimated at tens of thousands of dollars. The stone weighs 2.14 carats.
APPEARANCE Dense, dusty, mottled, opaque stone with iridescent reflections, including blue ones, or crystalline
OCCURRENCE: Dumortierite is found in some gneisses, pegmatites, granulites, granites, quartzites and quartz veins. Most occurrences have only mineralogical significance. Only in the quartzites of Rochester, Oreana, and Riverside (USA) is dumortierite mined as an aluminum ore. Other significant localities around the world include Madagascar, Kachan in Afghanistan, and Etemba and Kalkfontein in Namibia. Among our domestic localities, dumortierite occurs in gneiss at Vanov near Telč, in Vojetín near Rozsochy, and in quartz veins in metavolcanites at Psáry near Jílové.
HISTORY AND TRADITION
The official opening of Dumortierite took place in 1881. This mineral suffered the same fate as other gemstones of the Earth – people simply mistook the blue crystals for lapis lazuli out of ignorance. So when at 12. For centuries, dumortierite was mined in the lands of Afghanistan; no one suspected that it was an independent mineral that absorbs many useful properties.
In the second half of the 19th century. Thus, in the century, French scientists working in the Alps rediscovered the beautiful blue gemstone world. Since then, dumortierite has no longer been the counterpart of lapis lazuli. The mineral was named in honor of the famous French mineralogist Eugène Dumortier. Unfortunately, the researcher did not live to see the discovery of the NuGet package.
That's interesting!Eugene Dumortier was an amateur geologist. His scientific work began when the researcher was already 50 years old. Thanks to hard work and an interest in knowledge, Dumortier managed to gain the recognition of the scientific community of the time, something only a few people achieved. On the path to discoveries, Eugene was supported by Professor Jean-Baptiste Fournier, who taught the newcomer the necessary disciplines. At the same time, Dumortier studied German and English. After the researcher devoted himself to paleontology and mineralogy, he made many discoveries despite his relatively short period of scientific activity. Dumortierite was discovered by other scientists, but the beautiful blue mineral deservedly immortalized the name of the great explorer.
Dumortierite (Al,Fe)7(BO3)(SiO4)3O3 is an orthorhombic mineral, an aluminum and iron borosilicate. It was already described in the 12th. century as alleged lapis lazuli at the locality in Beaunan near Lyon (France), where it occurs in garnet gneiss together with cordierite and sillimanite.
Dumortierite usually forms thin columnar, needle-like to fibrous aggregates arranged radially or in parallel. But it can also be sold by the piece. Purple is typical for it. At other times it is blue, reddish-purple, or greenish. The engraving is white. Dumortierite is distinctly cleavable, translucent, with a vitreous to silky luster.
Dumortierite can be confused, for example, with kyanite, charoite, or cordierite.
