After all, it is entirely possible that these cut gems were made of lead crystal, from which most traditional cut glass is made. You really don't need to worry, so please don't throw away your beautiful glass and keep using it.
lead crystal is a refined material that was developed hundreds of years ago to replace lead crystal, whose supply was limited and the more it was used, the more expensive it became. When it was finally possible to replace it with lead crystal, it was a great success. Lead crystal usually contains 24% lead oxide (PbO) and is used to make traditional crystal products with rich cut decoration - for example, the famous Czech PK500 cut

lead-free crystal, currently widely used in standard hospitality glassware. Classic representatives of lead-free crystal are elegant wine glasses, which you may know from upscale restaurants, hotels, or even from home. This material is not suitable for complex, refined, and deep cuts, but rather for sandblasting and other modern decorative techniques. Thanks to the lower cost of the material and processing, lead-free crystal is used primarily for consumer glassware. Even though exceptions prove the rule.
