HISTORY AND TRADITION
Dioptase is a rare gemstone, known for its incredible beauty and powerful magical properties for centuries. The mineral was long called false emerald (pseudo-emerald), but it received its modern name in 1801, when it came into the hands of the French scientist and mineralogist R. J. Gayuye. The current name of the mineral - dioptase (dioptase) - arose as a result of the combination of two Greek words: Dm - "through", "through" and optikos - "visual".
The history of nuggets dates back to ancient times: despite the fact that it was recognized by scientists as an independent mineral only at the end of the 18th century. century, there is plenty of evidence that our ancestors (from the 5th centuries BC) actively used it in everyday life, taking advantage of the medicinal and magical properties of the copper emerald.
- There is a legend that a crystal found by a local resident named Ashir was sold to a Russian soldier serving nearby in 1791. The soldier, who mistakenly believed he had obtained an emerald, brought the stone to St. Petersburg, where the unique specimen first came into the hands of specialists. At that time, scientists' attempts to explain the discovery of the new mineral were not crowned with success, but the stone nevertheless received a given name identical to that of its discoverer - Ashirite.
Next, this mineral was studied in 1799 by the Russian scientist and chemist, Academician of the St. Petersburg Academy of Sciences, T. Lovitz, who carried out much comparative work and proved that there is nothing in common between the minerals emerald and ashirite.
And only 2 years later, the French scientist R. J. Gayuy completely separates the concepts of emerald and ashirite and gives the mineral a name that remains valid to this day - dioptase.
